Welcome to the website for Elwood Kindle School in Pitman, New Jersey. At Kindle School, you will find a warm and caring environment for learning. We are proud of our children, the support that our parents give to their children and education and our dedicated staff. We all work closely together to make these early years of education a successful and happy experience for our students.

Our original building dates back to 1926. The school was named after Elwood Kindle who was a Pitman resident that died in World War I in France. In 2000, we updated the infrastructure of the old building and added an addition to include a library, art/music suite, computer lab, elevator and three general education rooms.

We are a neighborhood elementary school with an enrollment of 225 students. We have kindergarten through fifth grade with two classrooms for each grade. We offer support to our students through special education, basic skills, reading recovery, counseling, speech therapy and an enrichment program.

We take great pride in the success of our students. We provide strong foundations requiring mastery of math operations and reading, writing and spelling proficiencies. At the same time we use a variety of teaching techniques to present the curriculum including technology, group work, hands on experiences and teacher directed activities. Teachers use smart boards, and laptop carts for instruction and student work.

Our Home and School Association is very active and provides enormous support for our school. The students in our school enjoy involvement in community service projects, opportunities to improve our physical plant and atmosphere. Some after school activities and clubs have formed such as a chess club, jump rope club, poetry corner, newspaper club and other clubs as an interest is identified. The students have recently formed an anti-bullying committee. We are proud of our teaching murals of the rain forest, birds of New Jersey and anti-bullying. Once a month, we have a themed lunch as students transform our lunchroom into a lovely café with decorations and tablecloths!
